Residential Student Permits
Resident Hillel student permits will go on sale through our parking portal at 10:00am Monday July 7. All other residential permits will be sold via a lottery system, details below.
Lottery Process Overview:
Residential permits for the Fall semester will be sold for all areas via a lottery system. The permit totals made available depend on parking available in each area and will be as follows:
170 Resident Purple Permits
110 Resident Black Permits
675 Resident Red Permits
There will be a separate lottery of 25 Gutterson Garage Only permits available only for Resident Red students who failed to get a permit from the Resident Red lottery. The odds of getting a permit depend on how many students end up signing up for the lottery in each residential area of campus.
Registration for the lottery will open at 10:00am Monday June 16 and will remain open until Monday July 7 at 10:00am when the chosen students will be randomly selected and notified by email by the end of that day.
The chosen students will have until 8:00am Monday July 14 to purchase their permit. Any unsold permits will be randomly selected by lottery again, and those chosen students will be notified by email. Any students that are unsuccessful in this drawing will be notified by email. Resident Red students who are unsuccessful in the lottery will receive information on how to sign up for a separate, second lottery for 25 permits that will be sold for the Gutterson Garage. The Gutterson Garage lottery sign up will be available from the time you receive the unsuccessful lottery email on Monday July 14 until 10:00am Friday August 1 when the winners will be chosen by lottery and notified by email.
All residential students will know by no later than the end of day August 8 whether they will have a parking permit for the fall semester.
How To Sign Up For The Lottery:
If you would like to participate in the lottery, please visit our parking portal after 10:00am on June 16. Go to the permits page and you will see a button to join the permit lottery.
There will be separate permit lotteries held for our three residential parking areas: Resident Red, Resident Purple, and Resident Black. The lottery that you are eligible for will depend on the area of campus that you are living in. We have assigned all students an area based on housing data received from University Housing and Dining Services. If you have changed your housing assignment recently and have the wrong area available to you online, please email our office at parking@uvm.edu with proof of your housing transfer at least 24 hours before the lottery closes and we will help get you into the correct area.
If you don’t know your housing assignment area (Red, Purple or Black), you will not be able to sign up for the lottery. If you are a transfer student and don’t get your housing assignment until after the lottery has occurred, you will not be able to get a permit through the lottery. Once you have a housing assignment, you will be able to buy permits online for your residential area if they didn’t sell out during the lottery process. If the permits for your area are sold out, you will need to wait until the Spring permit lottery to be able to obtain a permit.
