Animal Transfers

The lab is responsible for accurate transfer information provided to OACM in a timely basis. Animal Transfers must be submitted prior to the actual transfer to prevent IACUC non-compliance issues.
The Animal Care staff will move the animals within 48 hours of receipt.

Note to faculty and staff of the Larner College of Medicine: You must log in with your regular UVM NetID to access files provided by the Office of Animal Care Management.

About OACM Transfers

Requirements

Body

Non-USDA Covered Species (mice and rats)

Animal Transfers for non-USDA animals are required when:

OACM is required to report on all USDA Pain Levels (PDF) used for USDA species.

The lab must provide accurate Transfer Forms for USDA animals when:

  • moving animals from one USDA Level to another;
  • moving animals from one protocol to another;
  • moving animals from one room to another; or
  • any combination thereof.

Transfer Not Allowed

  • Animals in conventional housing cannot be moved to barrier housing.
  • Purchasing animals on one Protocol with subsequent transfer for use on another Protocol because of funding limitations is not allowed.
