BIO

As Manager of Operations and Visitor Services, I work closely with Museum Staff to build systems that improve the visitor experience and provide ease of access to information. If you have questions about visiting the museum, send them my way! My goal is to ensure people from all walks of life feel welcome in our space. I lead a terrific team of UVM Student Employees who work as Front Desk and Gallery Attendants. Additionally, I handle event coordination for our Fall and Spring Open House, and other events throughout the year. In my role at the Fleming Museum of Art, I have been able to combine my love for art and community building.

I like to work with people. For over seven years, I worked at the Peace & Justice Center in Burlington—an activist hub for grassroots movements. My duties there included working as the Interim Executive Director, Fair Trade Education program development, event and retail store management, mentoring, operations, and logistical support for protests and rallies. Through my time there, I was drawn to the complexities of global trade systems and the impacts they have on humans and the planet. Ultimately, this led me to work in the Administrative Office at Shelburne Farms to expand my knowledge in local food production and labor.

Amy's Staff Pick

Cream marble statue of a seated woman, Penelope, in front of a large, square painting with layers of green.

My favorite piece in the museum is really a whole room—the Marble Court. Built for opulence, this space is grand. Though built long ago to elicit reverence, the Marble Court is now a bustling place where students and community members gather to learn. Sitting in this space is a long adored figure named Penelope, a marble statue. The folds of her clothes display the high quality craftsmanship of artist Franklin Simmons (American, 1839 - 1913). When I look at Penelope, she reminds me that we all deserve a seat at the table... and I think that ROCKS.

Franklin Simmons (United States, 1839-1913) Penelope, ca. 1891. Marble. 1997.12
